 Rutilated Quartz Rough Stones This is the original! Rutilated quartz from Brazil is famous for its formation and straight golden rutile needles of titanium. These are a decent quality; while each piece has golden rutile, very few have the famous six-rayed star, although many have partial stars and some have multiple partial stars. The clarity is medium: not milky, but flawed. Many pieces also contain hematite. Lots of good lapidary, cabbing and tumbling potential in these raw stones! Sieber/Lealand Blue Agate (Slag) This material is referred to as "ancient slag". Melting rocks to extract the copper ore produces a left over material which is referred to as slag. Normally it has a dark, grayish color. But in this case, the slag has some nice patterns of blue, grey and sometimes red. This particular slag is about 100 years old! This blue slag can be cut and polished - either by hand or in a tumbler. The characteristics are similar to those of obsidian or glass. Stichtite rough stones - 1 lb Stichtite is a carbonate and it's colour ranges from pink through lilac to a purple colour. Partly there are also yellow/green parts of serpentine. A not particularly common mineral with a very beautiful color! Price per 1 pound. Mined in South Africa.

 Sugilite Rough Stone - 4 Ounces Sugilite is a rare purple gemstone, once so difficult to obtain that it was extremely expensive, and now much more popular. It takes a great polish and makes great cabs, beads and other lapidary and jewelry pieces.  Technically a silicate, sugilite gets its purple coloration from the presence of manganese. It occurs as a secondary deposit in a large manganese mine, usually forming in thin flat to slightly wavy layers, as seams in the host rock. Ranging from 5.5 to 6.5 on the Mohs Scale, it is softer than its black manganese host rock. Some pieces may also contain the extremely rare richterite, a blue mineral.   Our sugilite is in natural form, still attached to its matrix. Coloration, thickness of sugilite seam, and hardness can vary within the same small piece; some pieces may not have sugilite thick enough to cab, but they can be used in other ways, including natural-face freeform jewelry pieces and as specimens. The black matrix can be easily trimmed off.  Tanzanite Rough Stones These small pieces of tanzanite are mid-grade: purplish and gemmy, not facet-grade. Most are rough, broken chunks, although there are also many crystal faces and/or cleavage planes. The colors range from clear with a lilac tint, to light lilac, to yellow/brown, to cornflower. NOT HEAT TREATED. Some may have a schisty matrix still attached.
