Quartz/Rock Crystal Large Rough Pieces - 1 Pound This is rough, natural rock crystal (quartz) in a very transparent high quality grade. Quartz is the second most common mineral of the Earth's crust, but very much in demand in clear quality and more and more difficult to get in recent years. The fragments of larger crystals offered here are approximately fist-sized. They may have a little natural dirt / discoloration on the surfaces, which is common in naturally occurring minerals. Experience the natural brilliance of Lepidolite with these small rough stones, sourced from the mineral-rich landscapes of Madagascar. These stones are entirely natural and untreated, showing an average violet-to-lavender color typical of this lithium-rich mica. These specimens are highly micaceous, meaning they consist of numerous tiny, reflective layers of mica that create a natural, glitter-like sparkle when moved under light. Many pieces also feature naturally occurring Quartz inclusions, adding to their rugged, raw character. Measuring approximately 1 to 1.5 inches in size, these small roughs are perfect for "pick-your-own" retail bins, educational gemstone kits, or crystal displays. Buyer's Tip: Like most raw minerals, Lepidolite's colors appear most saturated and vibrant when wet. In their dry state, they exhibit a beautiful, pearly-matte shimmer. Magnesite - Rough, Natural Stone These rough pieces of magnesite (also called howlite) are bright, intense white. They display the typical gray veinous structures. Many lapidary purposes! Size: from about 3-5" long, to about 2-4" wide, to about 1 1/4 to 2" thick. 1-5 pieces per pound.  Please specify in the Comments area if you would like a single, larger chunk, otherwise you will receive random-sized pieces that match the weight of your order.  Unit for sale: 1 pound    

 Magnesite Small Rough Stones 1-2 Inches This is the classic white (undyed) magnesite (also called howlite), in small pieces. Each piece displays some of the gray spiderwebbing pattern common to magnesite. Very pure; no other mineral inclusions or matrix.  Magnesite Nuggets These pieces of magnesite are completely natural! They represent a crystal habit of magnesite instead of a massive formation. In this rough, natural state, they look uncannily like cauliflorets! They range from white to whitish, with  spots of color from other mineral inclusions.  Includes fragments of other rocks - sorting these is unfortunately not economically possible at our price. Mahogany Obsidian - Natural Rough Mahogany Obsidian All pieces of mahogany obsidian are about small fist-sized. All are good quality, have shiny surfaces and display the typical conchoidal fractures. Due to the extremely sharp natural edges, obsidian has been popular since the Stone Age in the production of tools, a tradtion that still continues with modern-day flintknappers.   Size: Please specify special size requirements in the comments section during checkout. Malachite Rough Stones These pieces of Malachite are approximately 1-2 inches in size, not crusts and no crystal formations. All pieces display the typical bright green banding and patterns. May contain botryoidal formations and small vugs with crystals.  Pieces are irregularly shaped.  Mica in Small Books - 1 Pound These pieces of mica come in their natural formation, which is small "books", from which individual sheets can be pulled off. The individual sheets are transparent, but the books are thick enough that they appear solid. Midnight Lace Obsidian Rough Stones This recently discovered obsidian astounds with its beautiful lines and internal structures! Straight opaque black lines appear in layers with translucent obsidian. Such an unusual contrast provides for many artistic and jewelry uses! Mookaite Rough Stones - 1 Pound Mookaite is a special type of porcelain jasper--a silicified, sedimentary rock--that is found only in Western Australia. Its typical bright, vivid, beautiful earthy colors range from yellow, brown, vanilla, ochre, red, purple, maroon and everything in between. The coloration comes from strands of the various original sediments. Mookaite is very popular with collectors--young or old; is ideal for any kind of decor, indoors or out; is stable and beautiful in all types of terrariums; and takes a wonderful polish for carving and jewelry purposes.   This rough, or raw, mookaite comes from the area around Gascoyne Junction (near Carnarvon) in Western Australia.   Size: 3-5 inches long, about 1-2 pieces per pound.  Raw Moonstone Moonstoe is a good, basic, solid stone, used for many lapidary purposes. These rough pieces of Moonstone from India are generally a nice white to grey color. The moonstone often breaks on those seams. It cleaves easily, and schiller is visible on the flattish surfaces that forms from breaking and/or cleaving.  Nellite (Lionskin) Rough Stone - 1 Pound Nellite is a massive silicate that forms where tiger eye and pietersite meet: it's like a blend of both. Nellite has the golden, translucent glow of tiger eye in quartz, as well as the blue crocidolite of pietersite, which is sometimes present by itself and sometimes silicifed or partially silicified, and mixes randomly with the golden-colored quartz. Polishing with the grain brings out the chatoyancy.  WARNING: May contain crocidolite, a type of asbestos. Wear a good respiratory mask when moving, storing or doing lapidary work with this stone. 1-5 pieces per pound, irregularly sized. Ocean Jasper Rough Stones Natural, untreated rough ocean jasper stones, also called ocean chalcedony. Ocean jasper is a very interesting and varied stone, which comes in a multitude of colors and patterns. Each stone has its own special structure and color and takes a high polish, making it unique and ideal for further lapidary processing or simply as a pretty decoration.  Pinolite/Pinolith Rough Stones Pinolite, also called pinolith, is stone comprised of magnesite, dolomite and graphite, resulting in an elegant and unique black-and-white crystalization structure. Its nickname is ice flower stone because of its magnesite crystals that form with the black graphite around them, looking like the white petals of a flower.  This kind is endemic to Austria, found only in a few places high in the remote Alps as a byproduct of the magnesite mines. As it is a soft stone, it is easy to cut, and it takes a great polish. Polishing really brings out its unique crystal structure. Pyrite Coarse Granules These pyrite pieces are small: about midway between our pyrite sand and our small pieces. They are about the size of pea gravel or about 1/3 to 1/4 inches long and are completely pure with NO other rock additives or fillers. Rainbow Obsidian Rough Stones These rainbow obsidian rough stones are a mystery: unattractive at first glance. The rainbow colors are visible where the rough natural weathered exterior has been broken away to reveal the shiny banded interior. The colors are iridescent, including blue, green and purple/pink, which formed and are visible in hazy layers or banding. Some also have silvery layers; each piece is different. This is a stone that must be worked at the correct angle, unique to each piece, to reveal the wonderful colors, but will have amazing lapidary/jewelry/flint knapping results.
