Polychrome Jasper, named from the Latin words for "many colors," is a visually diverse mineral known for its vibrant and varied appearance. These rough stones exhibit an amazing variety of shades, ranging from white and sky blue to teal, brown, red/pink, and tan. As a variety of chalcedony, Jasper is a very tough and durable stone that formed in distinct layers of different colors.
Because the material formed in these unique layers, every piece is one-of-a-kind. As the rough stones are broken or worked, more colors become visible where one layer ends and another random color layer begins, resulting in unique pieces.
The material originates from Madagascar and is highly versatile. It is commonly used for jewelry, home decor, decorative stone, and pebbles. The individual pieces vary in size, with specimens available up to 7 inches long, 5 inches wide, and 3 inches thick. Each 1-pound unit typically contains 1 to 3 pieces, though larger stones are available by increasing the order weight.
